Classic Nile Cruise, 22-29th November 2010
|
|
|
Enjoy Travel, once again welcomes you on another Classic Adventure in 2010. As you know, we introduce new events from time to time and after two very successful world tours, several Mediterranean cruises and over a hundred music and dance events in Europe and elsewhere, we thought it was time to add something new and a bit different to our growing portfolio. So, having sought and received lots of suggestions from our customers, we have chosen for 2010, a fantastic cruise of the mighty River NILE in Egypt. This is an EXCLUSIVE CHARTER which means we have the whole boat to ourselves and as this is more a cultural tour, we felt from the outset that the emphasis should be on encouraging everyone to visit all or as many of the world famous attractions as possible. So, for that reason we have arranged ten, yes TEN FREE excursions to be included as part of the holiday and that includes all the entrance fees to the various sites. And in the evening, we will have our own musicians to add a bit of Enjoy Travel flavour and dance the nights away under the Egyptian sky.

“Nowhere in this world, are there so many marvellous things of unspeakable greatness”! Those are the words of an ancient Greek historian named Herodotus!
And nothing has changed during the intervening Millennia. They are all there for us to ENJOY! For the more adventurous, there are also two optional excursions which we will make available to you, but they involve some internal flights and the details can be found at the end of the brochure

Prelimenary Itinerary (in brief)
The preliminary itinerary is set out below as planned. However, occasionally changes may and do occur and we will of course advise you. Changes are usually of a very minor nature, like switching days around or replacing one excursion for an equally good alternative. The schedule for sailing can be altered by the River Authorities because of water levels, opening of bridges, long queues of boats at locks, closing of the Esna Lock for maintainence etc., the closing of some and the opening of other monuments and antiquities. But be assured, no changes will affect the quality or variety of the tour.
Day 1: UK - Luxor.
Depart from Gatwick or Manchester for your flight to Luxor. (approx. 4.5hrs)
On arrival, transfer by coach (approx. 30 minutes) and embark.
Welcome dinner on board
 |
| A dip in the pool on board |
Day 2: Tuesday. Luxor - Edfu.
After breakfast, transfer to Necropolis of the west bank. Explore the Valley of the Kings, and the Queens. A vast city of the dead where magnificent tombs were once carved into the desert rocks, decorated richly and filled with vast amounts of treasures for the afterlife by the ancient Pharoahs . (‘Who said you can’t take it with you when you go?’) Rising out of the desert plain, in a succession of terraces, the funerary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El Bahari. It merges with the sheer limestone cliffs that surround it, as if nature had built this extraordinary monument itself. On the way back to the ship, visit the famed Colossi of Memnon, known in ancient times for their haunting voices. In the afternoon, sail to Edfu, passing through the Esna lock en route. Overnight at Edfu.
Day 3: Wednesday. Edfu - Kom Ombo - Aswan.
At Edfu there is a visit to the Temple of Horus, probably Egypt’s best preserved temple. Sail to Kom Ombo for a visit to the Temple before sailing to Aswan.
Day 4: Thursday. Aswan.
In the morning you visit the High Dam and the Philae Temple which was dedicated to the gentle Goddess Isis. In the afternoon you can view the Aga Khan’s Mausoleum and Botanical Garden whilst enjoying your trip on the Nile by felucca, a traditional Egyptian sailing boat. There is an optional excursion also available by boat to the Botanical Garden and Mango Island (EG£130, approx. £13 per person). In the evening, there is an opportunity to see the Sound and Light show at the Philae Temple (EG£260, approx. £26 per person).
We will have information on board for anyone who wants to avail of these.
Day 5: Friday. Aswan - Edfu.
Spend the morning at leisure in Aswan. Perhaps enjoy a trip on a horse-drawn carriage from the Old Cataract Hotel, where Agatha Christie wrote "Death on the Nile". There is also an optional sightseeing excursion by road or air to Abu Simbel (EG£790, approx. £79 per person by road/duration approx. 9 hours; EG£1450, approx. £145 per person by air/duration approx. 5 hours). Approximately 1 hours and 30 minutes is spent at Abu Simbel. In the afternoon, we sail to Edfu for an overnight stay.
Day 6: Saturday. Edfu - Luxor.
In the morning, relax on board as you sail back to Luxor, passing through the Esna Lock en-route. In the afternoon you visit the famous Karnak Temple, a superb example of ancient Egyptian architecture depicting life around 1600 BC, and the well-preserved Luxor Temple which is situated in the heart of town. Visit the Temple of Luxor. Artwork and carvings very well preserved here. Early Christians used part of this temple for a church. Apparently the Sound and Light show in the evening at the Karnak Temple is worth seeing It is optional at (EG£240, approx. £24 per person). We will have more details on board and if there is enough interest we understand that transport will also be available.
Day 7: Sunday. Luxor.
A whole day to explore this bustling and colourful town at your leisure. Plenty of time to shop for those last minute souvenirs and take those final memorable photographs.
On this day there is also an opportunity to take an optional full day excursion by air to Cairo with a visit to the Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities and the bustling Khan-el-Khalili bazaar, with lunch included. The cost is (EG£2100, approx. £210 per person). We have made this optional because of the cost and the fact that not everyone would want to do it. It is the return flight that makes it expensive but because of the distance there is no other way of doing it. If you decide that you would like to see the Pyramids, then we do need to know in plenty of time because we will need to reserve seats on the aircraft.
There is also an optional half day excursion by road to visit the Temple of Hathor at Dendera (EG£300, approx. £33 per person).
Day 8: Monday. Luxor - UK.
Morning at leisure. Time to pack, but for an unforgettable end to your holiday, why not take an early morning hot air balloon flight over the West Bank This is optional and the cost is (EG£850, approx. £85 per person, approx. 45 minutes in the air). After lunch on board, we will transfer by coach to the airport for your return flight to Gatwick or Manchester.

Health Issues –Injections etc:
The risk to health when travelling abroad varies between individuals. The length of stay and the area in which you are travelling also has a strong bearing on it. Much depends on the individual’s normal state of health. Therefore, we respectfully advise that you discuss your own individual requirements with your doctor or Practice Nurse when they will be happy to advise. We are NOT qualified to tell you what your own requirements might be. Your European Health Insurance Card will not apply in Egypt. Make sure you take out proper travel insurance. This is mandatory when travelling on an Enjoy Travel holiday. Details of our own insurance cover are located towards the back of the brochure. If you already have insurance, then you must provide on your booking form details of your insurance company, the 24 hour emergency contact number, the policy number and confirmation that it is valid at the time of travel. Please check our website for appropriate links to information regarding health issues when travelling abroad. For peace of mind, there is a doctor available at each port.
Bring with you
Sunglasses, headwear, camera, high factor suncream and some some Egyptian pounds. Most places accept American dollars and some will now also accept Euro. It is also a good suggestion to read up on the country in advance. You will get so much more enjoyment from the experience if you know something about the place in advance.
www.touregypt.net is the official site of the Ministry of Tourism and is very good.
The Weather
We have chosen to travel towards the end of November as the heat in June to October can be quite unbearable with temperatures soaring to 40C. Even in November it will be very warm and sunny of course, but I’m sure we’ll cope, especially after the severe winter weather here in the UK and at home in Ireland.
Additional information
Once we have received your booking form, there is a lot of additional information which we will be happy to provide. This covers the following: Passports, Visas, Luggage, hand luggage, essential items, packing and labelling (for example you should know your cabin number in advance and put it on your bags for safe delivery to your room), special requests, dietary requirements, flight seat allocation, assistance at airports, check in, currency, local customs, climate, the sun, dress sense, dining arrangements, etc etc
Entertainment
Our loyal entertainers are actually the very heartbeat of every Enjoy Travel event and their music of course, is the lifeblood that courses through every corridor, every function area, every lounge, and in this instance, every deck on board M S DaVinci. Enjoy Travel considers itself to be very fortunate in having the ongoing support of so many top Irish and UK entertainers, not forgetting our very own Enjoy Travel International Showband. Evening entertainment therefore, will consist of a mixture of dancing, theme nights, an Egyptian night, a Nubian Folklore evening and Belly dancing of course, and a gala evening with the captain. So we will have a mixture of entertainment with something to suit everyone. Click on the Entertainers link above to see who is booked to appear on this event.
